Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez, has been crowned the winner of Miss Universe 2009 on Sunday at Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas .

The 58th Annual Miss Universe 2009 was hosted by Billy Bush, and "Celebrity Apprentice" star Claudia Jordan.

The top 15 finalists who were vying for the Miss Universe crown were from Albania, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Iceland, Kosovo, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, the US and Venezuela.

The winner Stefania Fernandez was crowned by reigning Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela. The first runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz. See photos of the contestants in their beautiful evening gowns.

The world pointed and laughed as Heidi Montag Pratt made her transition from irrelevant reality star to irrelevant wannabe pop tart during NBC’s live broadcast of the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant at Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas on Sunday night.

The Hills villainess that audiences love to hate took the stage for a performance — her first-ever –of the ill-received single “Body Language” and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!

Say what you will about Mrs. Pratt, but the girl just patented a new breed of dreadful. Congratulations, Heidi!

The Miss Universe 2009 pageant is just a few hours away. As we prepare to tune in to witness Miss India Ekta Choudhry compete for the crowning
glory at the pageant in Bahamas, her mother Rita Choudhry is also busy praying for her daughter.

Talking exclusively to TOI, Rita says, “I spoke to Ekta sometime back today; she was a little tired and was planning to get some sleep as she gets hardly any time to rest. It’s a big day for Ekta and I’m sure she will really do well. She is a very confident child and is not at all nervous.”

Though Ekta’s parents will not be with her at the Bahamas as she competes for the Miss Universe 2009 crown, her family’s best wishes are with her. Her mother says, “Though you can’t predict anything, my husband and I, our friends and family, everyone is praying for her. We are really looking forward to seeing Ekta at the pageant. I have told Ekta not to lose her cool and answer the questions thoughtfully. I have also advised her to keep chanting Gayatri Mantra as it will give her strength.”

Ekta may miss seeing her parents’ faces in the crowd at the pageant, but her friends are making sure they will be there to cheer her on. Says Rita, “Some of her close friends have already reached Bahamas to attend the Miss Universe pageant and cheer up Ekta. She was really happy to see them, even though she could only meet them for 10-15 minutes because of her hectic schedule.”

Several Indians are also turning up in full force to back Miss India at the Miss Universe contest, “The other day Ekta told me that 60 people from the Indian community would be there at the event to cheer for her. She said all of them are very friendly. I even spoke to one of them and he told me, ‘Madam you please don’t worry. It’s okay if you are not in Bahamas with Ekta at the moment; we are here to support her and will take care of her as family’.”

“I saw the videos of preliminary competition; even the people of Bahamas were cheering for Ekta when she came on stage. This is all very touching. I wish we could also attend the pageant. I wish Ekta all the best. May God Bless her,” Ekta’s mother concludes.

Enough action, drama and intrigue to make them feel like they're trapped inside a reality show. Now, they're finally getting one to call their own. Plans have been announced for a new reality show called "Mission Hollywood,"

Shahrukh Khan, an icon in the world of Indian cinema, was detained at Newark Liberty International Airport in New York City, and questioned.

Khan says the experience left him ‘angry and humiliated’, and blamed US airport security of singling him out because he was a Muslim.

Newark officials, however, say that he was given routine checks, and was detained mostly because his luggage was lost, and so a search had to be undertaken.

Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Fight between Gina Carano vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos was it was billed to be, a good mixed martial arts fight. From its outset, it was obvious that Cyborg was the more aggressive of the two fighters, immediately going on the offensive and attacking Carano once the match began. Personally, I hoping for a longer competition between the two of them than one round (5 minutes, which we have for you below) but seeing Carano get out of a kimura attempt and hearing people in-the-know cheer when she did was great. The Strikeforce fight at the HP Pavilion on the 15th of August, 2009 was the first loss in Carano’s career (7-1) thus far. Cyborg MMA record is now 8-1. I always wondered what would compel someone with Carano’s looks to put that asset in danger by stepping into the but Carano is a fighter , what she brings to the table has done a lot for women’s mixed martial arts. I hope to see a rematch between Gina Carano and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in the future.
